Time Piece Questions

Barely into the third month of the year, I'm really sick of Romanesque or Romanish names of months.  What is the connection between our months and these terms? 

Doesn't March, and march, and martial and marshall all come from Mars?  Do wars start or end in this month?  Don't many cultures already name a day of the week for him?
