Snow in Tennessee

Near the location I first saw snow, I saw it again.  The first time was in a parking lot near Lookout Mountain and this time we were driving along in Crossville and the rain looked funny.  It was at night and the drops were white and blowing... hmmm.  We weren't sure at first but there it was.

Covering the ground and the car the next morning; but not the road- it was fun feeling the softness on my foot- cold sure, but feeling like a cold blanket.

All the Light We Cannot See - Anthony Doerr

So it went from cousin to aunt to aunt to Mama and we'll see:

So far, so great.

Scribner 2014

It would not have been possible for us to take power or to use it in the ways we have without the radio.
 - Joseph Goebbels

No kidding, now what about that hideous squawk box which I've swore off- temporarily- the teevee?

Leaflets
At dusk they pour from the sky.  They blow across the ramparts, turn cartwheels over rooftops, flutter into the ravines between houses.  Entire streets swirl with them, flashing white against the cobbles.  Urgent mesasge to the inhabitants of this town, they say.  Depart immediately to open country.

Well that's a good start to make me want to know what happens next.

How to Become a Successful Consultant in Your Own Field - Hubert Bermont

So far, so great.

if your name happens to be Hubert Bermont, you've got to be a great writer, right?  (or your book will never get published...  Benedict Cumberbatch, anyone?

From the preface:

The first edition of this book was originally written and published in 1978.  To my delight and surprise, it went through eight printings and sold over fifty thousand copies.  But it did several other important things as well.

Yeah buddy, it got me a successful consultantship in my own fields... that's what it did.

Maybe.

I'm thinking of CV Talent.  That's a great name to cover whatever I want to get paid to do; isn't it?

Let's see- there's the beachfront condo.  I can rent it.  And there's the dog- Probably old but I'll call him a puppy- and he can go around and let people pet him who need some love... and then I can get people who can, to stuff envelopes or string beads.. and I can hire people to do whatever...

Okeechobee Road Near I-95

Driving by the old commercial locations I used to frequent as a child, I stopped at the McDonald's that I first remember; right next to a car wash that must have been there since 1972 or before- that's my guess.

The car wash is being closed temporarily, and unlike restaurants who do that and might not reopen- it does seem like they're keeping the old "charm" but updating the facilities.  I remember that location well; with those two businesses in front of the Super Slide, which in my memory was stories high.  Behind all that was Pantry Pride, which was probably my first or second aware-of grocery.  Winn-Dixie has always been there- and maybe Publix- in the recesses of my memory- but maybe not Publix- not sure.

And wasn't there a K Mart before it became a K Mart?  Was it a Fields or a Kresgee or something like that?

I wish I could just ask someone who knows that neighborhood instead of googling it.

And then of course there is the neighborhood itself.

It is called Westgate.  And for some reason that didn't used to be a nice name.  But I have nothing but good memories there- except the one time somebody tripped me on purpose- and maybe two or three times someone was mean, and quickly corrected: there wasn't anything protracted like I remember in 7th grade or later.

Lots of the streets are Indian names and I remember playing Tonto on the Florida Holly tree in the front yard where today there doesn't seem room for all that imagination.

I was right next to Seminole and Osceola and other similarly named streets- but didn't make the connection, having moved away by that time- to my FSU application and matriculation.

But there I was, seminoling it up at age 8 and again at 17.

People Today

It was mentioned Sunday that in America - this was several decades ago- it was observed that there is a deep rebellious spirit and tangled thinking.

Boy does that seem right on the money.

I have been using non-flouride toothpaste for awhile now, so I'm sure that's why I'm now so brilliant, but haven't I always been?

So I got a job

I still keep looking at emails about jobs and thinking what to do for one, but then I remember-

Trying a New Trivia Place

Well my Tuesday nights have been overtaken so the glory days of winning might be over now- or they may have just begun to move to a new chapter.

We've found a Thursday place and I'm looking forward to it tonight!
