Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Words and all
God Rest Ye and First Noel, both instrumental.

2nd Carol only yesterday

I think this is the second time that I have heard a carol, and it is Joy to the World, again, this time with Mac Powell and words.  I want to bring carols and Gaithers and Gatlins back.  Then today I heard an instrumental Oh Come All Ye Faithful.  And my memory, when I made my video about it, I had forgotten that I had heard some lyrics. That's the danger of expecting something and finding it. You always have to remember that you find which you're looking for.

new this year

Live version Kelly Clarkson.  She says it kicks off her Christmas album. I really like it, as far as that Christmas Love theme goes, which is my favorite. And my first Little Drummer Boy this year.

yes we need a little Christmas

This version has so much Johnny Mathis vibrato, but he really does have a great voice. Maybe I shouldn't be vibratophobic.  Interesting to think that it's not from a Christmas show.  Mame or Auntie Mame, I think the one that's not a musical, was the first Lake Worth Playhouse show I auditioned for.   I was thinking I was 9 years old, but I was probably 10.  They called me up on stage twice, which I thought was a good sign and I remember the script said to say b i t c h but I didn't understand I was supposed to spell it so I said it out loud and people laughed. But I didn't take it wrong, cuz when a kid says that word it's supposed to be funny.  We need a little Christmas right now, before my spirits fall again.

Karen Carpenter

I must have heard it before, but I had forgotten the introduction to Chestnuts.  I didn't associate Karen Carpenter with Christmas when I was small, but I certainly have in the last decade or so.

Celine Dion

Have Yourself A Little Christmas. Is this new to me? Or did I think that a previous year?  The ending is surprisingly nice, and drama-free.Lots of Sleigh Ride, the introduction of Air Supply's Winter Wonderland, sounding better this year than I remember several Amy Grant songs, Burl Ives, Santa Baby by Taylor Swift and Madonna.  Last Christmas by George who died at Christmas.  Several nice new ones, (to me) at Legends 100.3.  I love hearing Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormet.

George Michael's Last Christmas and a version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas with an uncharacteristic trumpet solo at the end which I found awesome, happy to hear Mariah Carey's All I want for Christmas is You even though I was kind of dreading it but it sounded great. Christmas Pachelbel so weird but parts are wonderful. And the Peanuts theme also known as Charlie Brown. So a new set of Christmas songs hearing for the first time this year and kind of merry and bright even though it is November 13th.

Last Christmas

George Michael, known to some only from the song Last Christmas, died on Christmas and then his sister died on Christmas so that's weird. But of course it wasn't exactly Christmas.   One was a day ahead and one was the day behind or something but anyway there's a connection between George Michael and Christmas, but now they just play Taylor Swift Last Christmas so that connection is going to be erased from pop culture. So here it is, a memorialized crystallization of that fact, forever preserved on The Google. Enjoy!  Here it is on the interwebs, so it must be true.

continued

emphasis on the informal choral style that is reminiscent of past decades with a nice version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town. More Michael Buble and the first hearing of the Grinch and some more Sleigh Ride, Harry Connick Jr a couple times and Nat King Cole Deck the Halls a couple times including that informal choral backup.

too many repeats already

Baby Please Come Home, Buble and Mariah, and Carol of The Bells which in itself is too repetitive, let it snow and the new Jingle Bell Rock which I like but if I'm going to hear 20 Christmas songs so far, why is that twice? Finally heard one carol, Joy to the World with lots of trumpet and of course Sleigh Ride again and again.  I'm liking the mixture of instrumentals, including who I think is Lindsey Stirling on violin and orchestral and choral arrangements including Frosty the Snowman, but so far Gene Autry Let's follow the light and give thanks to the Lord above is the most religious we've heard and Carol of the Bells is the only one that mentions Jesus by name. Once again, the Christian radio stations playing all the secular stuff....  Hasn't started yet this year by the way, but why is that?  So far just one station is playing Christmas music and it is a secular station.  And if all sounds to mention Jesus, there are 100 versions of Carol of the Bells which do not but they're playing the one that does.

Jordin Sparks Do You Hear What I Hear finally mentions the Child.  Mariah Carey Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Michael Buble again Baby Please Come Home.  Frank Sinatra j i n g le bells, Judy Garland Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Gene Autry Sandy Clause again so let's give things to the Lord above.

Nat King Cole making the season bright.  Carol of the Bells twice, once with Jesus words and once instrumental, Dean Martin yesterday.  Michael Buble Baby please come home.  Now that I've heard Nat...

Another Taylor Swift, Last Christmas, an Amy Grant version of Rock Around the Christmas Tree that I don't think I have heard before with a retro choir, Johnny Mathis It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Gene Autry Here Comes Santey Claus, Sleigh Ride instrumental, what has to be Kenny G with We Wish You a Merry Christmas, twice from last night to this night. Wasn't expecting to hear Jose Feliciano Feliz Navidad so soon. Now I'm good for another year.  Give me some eggnog and I can skip to February. Paul McCartney "little children sing their song they practiced all year long.". What are they all have in common, no mention of the reason for Christmas, not even in an instrumental.
