Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Last year lots of Amy Grant's version, which starts out acapella and ends with choir and orchestra. I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've heard it this year.  It illustrates one of the things I like about Christmas music which is the fact that it's the only time of year you can hear certain things, like organ.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Words and all
God Rest Ye and First Noel, both instrumental.

2nd Carol only yesterday

I think this is the second time that I have heard a carol, and it is Joy to the World, again, this time with Mac Powell and words.  I want to bring carols and Gaithers and Gatlins back.  Then today I heard an instrumental Oh Come All Ye Faithful.  And my memory, when I made my video about it, I had forgotten that I had heard some lyrics. That's the danger of expecting something and finding it. You always have to remember that you find which you're looking for.

new this year

Live version Kelly Clarkson.  She says it kicks off her Christmas album. I really like it, as far as that Christmas Love theme goes, which is my favorite. And my first Little Drummer Boy this year.

yes we need a little Christmas

This version has so much Johnny Mathis vibrato, but he really does have a great voice. Maybe I shouldn't be vibratophobic.  Interesting to think that it's not from a Christmas show.  Mame or Auntie Mame, I think the one that's not a musical, was the first Lake Worth Playhouse show I auditioned for.   I was thinking I was 9 years old, but I was probably 10.  They called me up on stage twice, which I thought was a good sign and I remember the script said to say b i t c h but I didn't understand I was supposed to spell it so I said it out loud and people laughed. But I didn't take it wrong, cuz when a kid says that word it's supposed to be funny.  We need a little Christmas right now, before my spirits fall again.

Karen Carpenter

I must have heard it before, but I had forgotten the introduction to Chestnuts.  I didn't associate Karen Carpenter with Christmas when I was small, but I certainly have in the last decade or so.

Celine Dion

Have Yourself A Little Christmas. Is this new to me? Or did I think that a previous year?  The ending is surprisingly nice, and drama-free.Lots of Sleigh Ride, the introduction of Air Supply's Winter Wonderland, sounding better this year than I remember several Amy Grant songs, Burl Ives, Santa Baby by Taylor Swift and Madonna.  Last Christmas by George who died at Christmas.  Several nice new ones, (to me) at Legends 100.3.  I love hearing Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormet.

George Michael's Last Christmas and a version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas with an uncharacteristic trumpet solo at the end which I found awesome, happy to hear Mariah Carey's All I want for Christmas is You even though I was kind of dreading it but it sounded great. Christmas Pachelbel so weird but parts are wonderful. And the Peanuts theme also known as Charlie Brown. So a new set of Christmas songs hearing for the first time this year and kind of merry and bright even though it is November 13th.

Last Christmas

George Michael, known to some only from the song Last Christmas, died on Christmas and then his sister died on Christmas so that's weird. But of course it wasn't exactly Christmas.   One was a day ahead and one was the day behind or something but anyway there's a connection between George Michael and Christmas, but now they just play Taylor Swift Last Christmas so that connection is going to be erased from pop culture. So here it is, a memorialized crystallization of that fact, forever preserved on The Google. Enjoy!  Here it is on the interwebs, so it must be true.

continued

emphasis on the informal choral style that is reminiscent of past decades with a nice version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town. More Michael Buble and the first hearing of the Grinch and some more Sleigh Ride, Harry Connick Jr a couple times and Nat King Cole Deck the Halls a couple times including that informal choral backup.

too many repeats already

Baby Please Come Home, Buble and Mariah, and Carol of The Bells which in itself is too repetitive, let it snow and the new Jingle Bell Rock which I like but if I'm going to hear 20 Christmas songs so far, why is that twice? Finally heard one carol, Joy to the World with lots of trumpet and of course Sleigh Ride again and again.  I'm liking the mixture of instrumentals, including who I think is Lindsey Stirling on violin and orchestral and choral arrangements including Frosty the Snowman, but so far Gene Autry Let's follow the light and give thanks to the Lord above is the most religious we've heard and Carol of the Bells is the only one that mentions Jesus by name. Once again, the Christian radio stations playing all the secular stuff....  Hasn't started yet this year by the way, but why is that?  So far just one station is playing Christmas music and it is a secular station.  And if all sounds to mention Jesus, there are 100 versions of Carol of the Bells which do not but they're playing the one that does.

Tuesday, November 9, 2021

Jordin Sparks Do You Hear What I Hear finally mentions the Child.  Mariah Carey Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Michael Buble again Baby Please Come Home.  Frank Sinatra j i n g le bells, Judy Garland Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Gene Autry Sandy Clause again so let's give things to the Lord above.

Monday, November 8, 2021

Nat King Cole making the season bright.  Carol of the Bells twice, once with Jesus words and once instrumental, Dean Martin yesterday.  Michael Buble Baby please come home.  Now that I've heard Nat...

Sunday, November 7, 2021

Another Taylor Swift, Last Christmas, an Amy Grant version of Rock Around the Christmas Tree that I don't think I have heard before with a retro choir, Johnny Mathis It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Gene Autry Here Comes Santey Claus, Sleigh Ride instrumental, what has to be Kenny G with We Wish You a Merry Christmas, twice from last night to this night. Wasn't expecting to hear Jose Feliciano Feliz Navidad so soon. Now I'm good for another year.  Give me some eggnog and I can skip to February. Paul McCartney "little children sing their song they practiced all year long.". What are they all have in common, no mention of the reason for Christmas, not even in an instrumental.

it has begun

Most wonderful Time of the Year Andy Williams and Taylor Swift Santa Baby, it's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas hahaha and White Christmas by the doo wop group.

Written rather than text to speech

At the lieberry and thinking of Orlando.

Recently-Newman the Maribou stork has been misbehaving.  They put him up to give him time to think about what he has done- (Defiantly standing by the chute and walking through when he thinks no one is looking.)

Alice the giraffe is gone- wish/don't wish I had seen the body tied to a pickup.  Would like to see the graves.  And get close to the rhino, and pat Zachary the spider monkey.  Dobby and Peppermint are gone, and my favorite Martin just had some teeth removed in hopes of being King Goat a little longer.

Two new monkeys and a new rhino, and the day I heard on the radio- hey, looks like we have a new baby impala.  Mosi was in the pen with two females, I heard Bokhari couldn't but they think Mosi did- and now a wait to see the result.

Still mad about the Sarus cranes.  When there is an animal sitting on its egg- leave it or incubate it right?  So educated they lost common sense.  Won't move the baby coming into the world out of a mud puddle for fear of interfering but take away eggs?  Give me a break, get some common sense.  Still using over mineralized stinky water for that whole side of the Park?  Really?  And feeding budgies on the ground wondering why they are stepped on.  Come one.

Let's see if anybody sees this blog while I still work there.  Probably not.

"You're only getting ONE of THOSE shirts."

"He needs all the help he can get."

"Now that I know you hate rides I'm going to put you on rides every day."

Spinning around the corner on two wheels: "Get out, it's 5:30 the Park is closed."

"No.  We put the cover on the train to protect it from the sunshine."

"You're my favorite, but..."

"Get out of the break room."  That one was the loudest.

Doing my review during my lunch.

Pretending like on time is late.

Walking around instead of in a straight line.

Not being allowed to go back to your locker or get into the locked door to get your lunchbox or a drink.

Getting to HR to sign papers and suddenly being expected to work that day.  That's a fun one.

Halloween

I saw my first Halloween deflatables just now. In the neighborhood behind the Wendy's on 13th Street, no make that 14th Street. I think they had four or five of them in their yard but they were just piles of plastic laying on the ground. It's almost Holiday season again and somebody asked me yesterday what I was going to wear for Halloween; maybe they said what are you going to be for Halloween and I had not thought of that. On Facebook today I saw someone dressed up as Starry Night and his brother dressed up as Van Gogh. Kind of weird. Cute or sad!?

fabulous first paragraph

In the dark smelly place beneath the sink. Behind the drainpipes. She has made herself small enough to hide here.

Strands of a broken spider's web sticking to her skin. Her eyes wet with tears. Hunching her back like a little monkey. Arms closed tight around her knees raised against her small flat chest.

Cletha

Said they're trying to kill her: people outside in the community, people back in Haiti and her own man whom she is in love with sometimes.  Hardline to go back and forth between thinking you're in love and thinking your lover wants to kill you. Would he really get that much out of her? Is she really that important? Wow. What a way to think of the victim, but interesting thoughts.

All have sinned

Pretty obvious, but people ignore it. I just heard on Chris Yoon's YouTube channel comments that we shouldn't call ourselves sinners anymore, but saints and that would be the difference between a saint and a sinner, even though the saints still sin. Would have to do a word study to check the validity of this.  We aren't something anymore, even though we still do the behavior that makes us that thing?

JC Superstar days

Starbucks versus Duncan

Both successful for a few decades, and same coffee business model as far as I can tell. One calls your name, Duncan does not. So do they tend to attract disperate customer bases?  I feel like I don't want them to call my name, now that McDonald's knows my name from each mobile order. But at the same time, I know there's something personal maybe I secretly like it? In some cases?  I seem glad that they don't say it very much, but it is printed on the receipt.

magically

Like we all know, but T said it out loud, no one cares about the virus anymore.  But they talk about the vaccine, but haven't heard for a very long time that it isn't a vaccine. For a while there they were telling us it was a vaccine that wasn't a vaccine now it's just a vaccine.  And Christmas I was allowed to be with one aunt and the other aunt, but they couldn't be together and last night there we all were, Michigan Florida and California represented with no masks.

mcds corvid

The McDonald's have responded to the Corvid in several different ways.  The sound serve drink stations have been closed, but I saw one open so far. They're starting to remove the stickers that tell you not to sit at certain tables, in the beach McDonald's in Boynton, has opened up a section. This McDonalds and the one on West Lake Worth Road thought that if they closed entire sections that would help.. they just wanted to wipe off less tables and mop less of the floor.

squirrel monkeys

Sure are cute with their legs looking as if they were dipped into yellow orangish paint.
This one enclosure that I've never seen before, has red-fooded tortoise squirrel monkeys, rhinoceros iguana, which I haven't seen yet and the northern pied horn bill.  So cool to see the monkeys and the tortoise and the bird interacting at the same time.

Corvid

Somebody who had it, whose dad and grandparents had it told me that they no longer like Coke or Pepsi but they still like Dr Pepper, that they used to like the smell of hand sanitizer but not anymore and that they haven't returned to a taste for coffee yet.

sad

Sonny's Greenacres is gone. It's almost Memorial Day, and on days like that, Labor Day, Father's Day,  Mother's Day for some reason I want to eat at Sonny's.   Remembering the raw looking chicken in Tallahassee, All you can eat with Anne and other music majors, and before that, on Forest Hill and Military, which became Inspiration House which is now a gas station.  And several Sonny's in Orlando, The one in Kissimmee by the beehive place, Oak Ridge before and after it moved.

world thrift plaza

Seems like they've been remodeling the place for a long time. Family Dollar is there and some empty stores etc. McDonald's has self-serve soft drinks available now, first time I've seen that and a really long time. You know, the Corvid.  During this time, tables have not been cleaned more often and maybe even less often. But if you're in the table has remained labeled empty. The separate can ask are still closed and the video games here at McDonald's are still closed. I think maybe rogue employees open it up cuz they were tired of giving refills maybe.  The signs are still there as if they're closed. I like this McDonald's better when it was Mexican themed. But there are plugs available to charge your phone.

Sad Sonny's

You know you didn't need electrical vehicle charging stations. But that's not why you're out of business.  Those customers of yours, the kind that only get cardio when they raise their hands on Sunday mornings, don't need electrical vehicle charging stations.  Anyway, I'm sad and I'm going to miss you even though I only went there for my free meal on my birthday. I just got too expensive.

Easter

Interesting, thinking about the name, and Ishtar and the also translated word Paschal this time of year. Gave Mom some purple bougainvillea and wore a yellow shirt and reminded of Lydia saying that yellow and purple are the colors of Easter. If a third were to be added, I would add a robin's egg blue. Today here in McDonald's there is a yellow garland, which is surprisingly unhappy and cheap looking. You don't have the cutest little yellow chicks attached to the garland. I can't figure it out. It's a good idea in theory. Thinking of the connection between the Passover and Jesus the Lamb of God. The film of police breaking up a church service or attempting to, the pastor calling them Nazis and Gestapo comes to mind because he said it was the most important part of you for Christians, Passover. He didn't say the word Paschal or Easter. Or Resurrection.  I think I read this happened in Calgary. He didn't sound like a native English speaker or a native French speaker.

petting zoo

I know we're cut off from our food supply and we have romantic versions of animals in our heads. So don't want to kill the animals, and we don't want the animals to eat other animals, but we eat meat all the time.  But when people actually walk toward a petting zoo they're terrified. And it's not just the babies. I don't understand why a baby wouldn't actually want to go up to an animal that sees, especially if the animals just sitting there but this is the state we are in. I understand not wanting to be around the poop or the smelly animal but these people are genuinely scared.  The smell didn't bother me after 10 minutes.  Farmer in my blood.

upon further reflection

When this couple looked at me dumbfounded, and showed no facial recognition that they knew what I was talking about, I believe they were lying. They acted like they'd never heard of a monster under the bed, as if children running across the room and jumping in bed to keep them safe from imaginary monsters underneath the bed was something they had never heard. This has to be a lie. Is it not also a common belief of children, that as long as they have covers around them that they are safe, but if they come out from underneath the covers something can get them? Now that I know they talk about each family member behind our backs...and why would I think that they wouldn't, since everybody does this, but I just never thought of it before, this is their way of showing how illogical I am. But everyone knows that children do this. Don't they? Me saying that children do this does not make me illogical. Because children do this. No?

McDonald's Wi-Fi refurb continued

Yesterday, no Wi-Fi at the Greenacres studio Sherwood Forest McDonald's, and today no McDonald's Wi-Fi at the river bridge Forest Hill jog McDonald's. Unrelatedly, there's the cutest dog with his nose almost stuck out of the window at the drive-through. It's clear that he's been told to stay seated, yeah is enjoying every minute of his nose activity. What a good boy.

maybe connectivity

Now, the McDonald's Wi-Fi is on and I think for the first time the access to landing page is available from the list of available Wi-Fi networks. I've noticed this with other Wi-Fi networks but I don't think I've noticed it with McDonald's before. So maybe that's what they were doing, updating to get to the landing page before being able to use the internet. It's so annoying when it says it's connected, but no landing page shows up, so it's connected but it's unusable.  Maybe that's what they were working on to avoid in the future.  I'm fascinated by which apps work under which conditions. Text won't go through, sometimes Facebook won't connect very much, sometimes and so forth and it doesn't seem to always be when it's connected to Wi-Fi and when it's not.

the McDonald's app

Tells me that the restaurant is closed, so they can't take the coupon through The mobile app. However the gentleman at the register knows my name and what I ordered. I did not give him my name. But it is on the app and maybe the credit card well, of course it's on the credit card. They know their Wi-Fi is down. But it tells me it didn't work but it did work.

next to the new dairy Queen

Is a old out of business restaurant the same exact shape, for sale.  Makes me think that someone has figured out that building a good restaurant, is cheaper and the long run than taking over or referring one.  Energy bills? Configuration for fast service? I'm very interested in this topic. I think McDonald's with counters and lots of different levels for seating, some high tops etc creating little nooks and discussion areas are so inviting. and every public building needs to have more than one pooper. Per gender. McDonald's especially, used to have clean bathrooms and people would go in there to use the bathroom. And they should capitalize on that by having dollar treats readily advertised. So many of them are right next to highways. in so many of us need the bathroom so often because we eat too much. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, why don't they take advantage of it?  kids are happy at McDonald's. How nice to let them walk in and choose whether they want to sit at a bar stool, or whether they want to sit in the corner or at a big table or a little table.

Big sky stripe

Close close enough for me to see the dual strands of cloud that it's emtting, the plane is going from a lower altitude to a higher altitude, and Southeast to Northwest in a huge stripe. I see more stripe remnants to the north, going east and west

also

The one or two times it told the driver to stop and get some coffee! It was like a rocket ship or something.

memory

A series of unfortunate events has brought me to driving a wonderful rental car. whenever I sloppily change the lanes or drive towards the left or the right of the lane it beeps, reminding me of Leslie's paranoid starts when I was driving from Disney.

sky stripes

Added to the north south and East-West stripes, are Criss crosses, actual EX's in the sky of low altitude.  South of gateway and east of 95.

sky stripes

Several remnants currently, and the plane low enough for me to see both streams.  It started out a tiny bit south of me in Boynton, pretty much overhead, close to 95, heading north, obviously pretty low.

sky stripes all

Clear Blue sky about 9:45 this morning with a single plane putting double stripes in the sky, and lots of perfectly drawn stripe clouds in evidence.  The plane seemed to be south of Delray heading southward and upward and the stripes were mainly going north and south and were a little north of Boynton.

Right over Wellington High School last night about five, and Criss crossing across the sky doing vertical stripes heafed east and west.

because of covid

They will bring the rental car to me, but not the same day as I call.  I guess, if they warn the germs then the germs can't get there fast enough? I'm not sure.

McDonald's used to wipe off all the tables, now they close off whole sections because apparently having one person in each section is more work or more dangerous?

riddle me this?

I always see parents asking kids what they want. Do you want the green one or the yellow one? Do you want to go to the park or do you want to go to the zoo?  But then when they go into McDonald's, the kids always always want a different table and the parents never let them choose that.  Asking them whether they want to major in aeronautics or liberal arts is a little more expensive than asking them which table they want to sit at.  I think we've got it backwards.

sky stripes

The long one mentioned earlier has nearly faded, but it went from the North down to Boynton, basically North to South but ended up East of Seacrest, having started west of Congress north of 10th.... Now there's another one in that same path that didn't start out as far north and instead of heading South it went a little more Southeast and then there's another one that was basically North to South but all three were close together.

sky stripes

Right overhead, 10th and Congress, they're getting started on some straight North and South stripes. This one is so close I can see its double stream very clearly. And the remnants of other ones.

the psychology of panhandling

So there are certain parts of certain towns, where people come up and ask for money. It's certain intersections, and certain shopping centers. and I remember in Orlando, certain gas stations. Now I know some of this is organized, with panhandlers showing up for their shift and exchanging their cardboard signs that say God Bless and being dropped off at certain times and so forth. including the McDonald's on Forest Hill and Congress where they take their afternoon breaks, but all these people are not organized. But the ones that talk about bus fare, is that actually true? Because it seems like it happens a lot.   But is that part of the spiel, or if I was a panhandler would I actually want money for a bus?  People that talk about a bus, which I'm going to lump in with the people who need to take the Greyhound back to their town, meaning, I don't believe them, seems so well practiced in their story and then they just run off as soon as they get money instead of seeing genuinely grateful.  But I can tell you this, the people who make the God Bless signs could make them a little bigger.

sky stripes

Apparently were busy for a while I see some horizontal ones that are extremely clear south of Lake Worth, probably Boynton.

Looks like they've been extremely busy, right now they're up along the beach going north and south, but I can see stripes all over the place and remnants of stripes that have blended to low hanging clouds all over.

last of Christmas Music

On 88.9 I caught a song that mentioned wise men and shepherds. It was a duet and I think the title might have been He Leads Us On. I couldn't find it on google.  The song recognition service didn't recognize it.  I think it was one of those Christmas All Through the Year songs, and not necessarily for December.

I caught the middle of a version of thy word which I've never heard before. I've only heard Amy Grant's version and this version is maybe better although they both are wonderful in their own way. This one seems to be a duet.

next

An instrumental God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen with something else mixed in, Worthy is the Lamb with the Hallelujah Chorus and then some contemporary thing with really good harmony, a duet. Spirit of Christmas through our children's eyes.

don't think I've heard that for a few seasons.

Kathy Troccoli

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year not sure who it's with but I like their harmony in a couple spots. The instrumental behind them is perfect but they sound a little dated. Not timeless enough.

I heard

The Bells on Christmas Day. And then Mary Did You Know, Joy to the World, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen with a jaunty fiddle and a nice solo female. Oh Come All Ye Faithful, saxophone.

89.9

More contemporary Christmas stuff, Come Let Us Adore Him. Peace on Earth.  Then a jaunty tune, an instrumental with a happy harmonica seems to be a medly with Joy to the World and then an instrumental Silent Night.  Then Sidewalk Prophets that Spirit of Christmas.  I don't think this is going to be the last Christmas on I hear this season, but it sure was weird not to hear any on the radio for what seemed like three or four days.
