Christmas Music 2019 Continued

First Amy Grant song of the season- Winter Wonderland.

In my memory, her sound on her first Christmas album; A Christmas Album, was young and fresh and her sound became more circumspect- not raspy but moving in that direction.  But here it was, a beautiful rendition, a little loungey.  Not bright eyed, but still far from jaded.  I really like it.  And I have always liked it.

I think A Christmas Album is one of the best Christmas albums- except some people don't like Amy Grant's voice.  I love her voice so at least like, or love, nearly every song I hear.  But some people just think it's not very professional.  To me it's not overly practiced or trained but just great- like lots of singers I like that just easily sing- not like they've worked on it.  I think it's great.

But back to the album.  When I first got it, I was already in love with her voice.  So of course that helped me like it.  But what I found was something unexpected in that most artists don't do a Christmas album until later in their careers.  And I think this one was recorded in July (I think in Colorado) to be ready for market soon after Age to Age.  Marketing genius.  But as far as the selections themselves- it just is very balanced.  A couple of the traditional carols- probably the best ones- the two angels- Angels We Have Heard On High and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, two traditional pop loungey classics- Winter Wonderland and Mel Torme's (Santa's On His Way) The Christmas Song(Chestnuts).  A couple of more traditional classic pop songs- Sleigh Ride     Some Contemporary Christian new tunes- Love Has Come, Emmanuel, A Christmas Hymn (Praise to God Who's Love Was Shown).  A couple new tunes that could be more mainstream Christmas genre and American- Tennessee Christmas and Heirlooms, a new melody for an old carol- Little Town Of Bethlehem.  There's a non Christmas hymn- A Mighty Fortress- and it's half of a medley too, with Angels We Have Heard On High and a larger medley starting with the instrumental newly-composed Preiset Dem Konig which works into the newly melodied Little Town and into the Christian standard- newly written also- Emmanuel.

So we've got the guitar round the campfire, let's slow it down for a minute singer-songwriter vibe, a synth instrumental, some a capella, some standards, some traditional and a surprisingly amount of new stuff to seem an instant classic.  And in terms of instrumentation we've got an orchestra, some sleigh bells and once again I'll mention the loungey saxes and combo sound.

It's amazing that this album led to so many more Christmas albums and now they seem a blur- an endless playlist rather than albums.  But I haven't listened to those in their entirety like I have A Christmas Album.

Christmas 2019

Here we are nearly into the 20s.

I heard Jo Stafford in Walmart.  And Nat King Cole on the radio.  And a Christmas CD with a nice version of Joy To The World by jeannie c riley .  And then at Christ Fellowship there was Silver Bells.

So here we go.

Sky stripes

Short skinny ones

All over South Boynton Beach

First Monday evening at bird McDonalds.
This morning, a pair of roseate spoonbills.

It makes me nervous that they're draining the lake. It would be so easy to put a board walk across it or around it and call it a park. Boynton Beach boulevard and military trail.

Starting to see the bias

Watching nearly exclusive YouTube; not tv or movies, it's easy to see things that are well produced as trite and/or agenda-laden.  But isn't everybody agenda-laden?

PewDiePie doesn't seem agenda-laden, but that's just because I agree with him that we don't have to call all white guys racist.  And we don't have to call all rich people evil.  But it's easy to see something that is popular is mainstream.  And it's easy to call the main stream liberal.

Bottom line: everybody thinks they are right, so that informs what they do.

Daze with Jordan the Lion #1194 AUSTRALIAN Travel Meet Up, Sydney Opera House, Vicky Hamilton Rock...

You can fish inside the Sydney Opera House?

Kids

They just don't care. Racism is on the TV, not with kids.

The race-baiters we're going to have to find something else to do in the next generation. Well, they'll be dead. But what I mean is, the troublemakers won't be doing that in the next generation. Because it won't exist.

Two day's substituting, and so far there's the usual boy and girl nitpicking, and some people who talk all the time. The main problem, is the prevalence of people who don't realize they're talking. Of course he's our kids, but adults do it as well.

With the kids, 10 of them at the same time are telling me that other people are talking. When I point out that if they are saying words, they themselves are talking, they are confused. Because what they notice mostly, is the other kids who aren't paying attention. So I just tell them, you take care of yourself. You can't control if other people talk. But you can control if you're talkin.

Wow text-to-speech, do you really think I said talking? Well that's what I said, so why did you write that colloquialism?

I'm reminded of the supervisor in our haunted Mansion tour,  so who was
so excited to be behind the scenes, that she couldn't stop talking. And because she couldn't stop talking, and because she noticed other people talking, she spent a lot of time, telling other people to be quiet. And weren't talking is nearly as much as her. A paragraph
It's a weird problem. And I found myself doing it also.

Latest Audition

It was nice that I got ready for it quickly.

And I met some nice people.

And I introduced myself to a new venue.

I started with they call the wind Mariah and he had me sing some enchanted evening but I was nervous and rushed through everything.

Arthur on the piano was playing fast. But that's no excuse for me, because I'm the one that was auditioning. And I should have just slow down. Looking back, I think I wanted to take the path of least resistance. Which is not attractive. And not good for auditions at all.

Interesting, they don't use mics. Also interesting. They audition in front of everybody. I went on Tuesday. And Lenore, g, and Heidi, went on Monday. There were 20 people on Monday and five of us on Tuesday. It was a nice place there in the park at dark. And I talked to two auditionees, who I should have gotten Facebook info from.

They sent me a letter thanking me for auditioning.

YouTube is owned by Google

So why does the YouTube search engine not work nearly as well as Google search engine?

And why here on blocker, does the search engine for YouTube videos not work well

With a computer, and Google search engine I can find anything. But not on the phone, and not at YouTube.

Sky stripes

All over lantana
Up and down, back and forth deep and wide extensively for the past 2 hours. Maybe longer, I didn't notice them till 2 hours ago but they're still going.

Generally far across the sky. Huge one south to North

Man, I've been wanting to blog but too discombobulated.

I am surprised that Blogger is okay with that spelling/vocab choice.

I started substituting on Thursday; received a call that I didn't get on Friday, and received a text for Today; Monday, that I didn't get for an hour or so, so it didn't come through.  But the texter thanked me for replying.  So there are no problems there.

I don't know the extent of the problem, but I went through a little hiccups last week.  On Tuesday or Wednesday, I sneezed too hard.  And consequently had one or two days of right pectoral pain and now just discomfort.  Amazing.  Scary.

Then I subbed, and the kids were quiet five minutes at a time, max, all day.  Nice kids, playfighting and stopping or stopping each other- self-policing and group-policing.  No care for race.  Some male/female negative relating.

Then, somewhere between school (Maritime Elementary behind the former-ghetto McD's) and the McD's PBSC, somebody took my phone or picked it up later; probably at Palms Pharmacy, which I still love.

Somebody NOT ME, answered Kathy's texts while I didn't have my phone.  Google maps says they went to Marathon gas station on Blue Heron Blvd.  Other than that, I don't know what they did.  They couldn't get into voice mail, but how many people hate me because of their texts?  Hopefully no one.

Kathy texted me about where to go on Sunday for lunch with Mom and the stealer texted back "Ok."  So of course she thought I got that text.  Then she texted again and the texter texted back "Ho."  So Kathy wondered what I meant and why I didn't answer her question.

We will see if anybody else was answered or texted.

Lesley died.

Mom is not wanting to leave Cresthaven East much, but still is, every Sunday.

Bruce from my new church, Christ Fellowship, is going to bring his 92 year old to CE; where Alessandra left us, and Justin still is.

Jody, Steven and Taya went to Duffy's trivia with Smita, Kathy, me and Linda.

Globe/Flat Earth Idea

People don't understand the curvature of the Earth.  Why don't pilots have to keep pointing the nose of their airplane down?  What does the surface of the Earth look like from far away?  We know what a globe looks like and we know what a map looks like, but no idea how they relate.

At trivia with a smart person and a clever person; neither one had any idea how projections of maps are different; much less the word Mercator.

The very helpful comparisons of several map types- those that make Europe big, those that make the Northern Hemisphere big, the map of Siam-centric world in The King And I; are not understood because we never see part of the Earth in a 3D form.  Hand somebody a part of Europe from a globe and they might get it.  Hand them a Europe and an Africa?

Golden!

Sky stripes

short short ones,  Over green acres iandn Lake Worth,  various directions,  Seem to be changing altitude, rather than long vertical stripes like usual.
